i
put an old scientific anglers system 9 reel on the rod. it was okay but could have used a reel with just
a touch more weight to balance it out perfectly. i lined it with a scientific
anglers gpx 7wt. fly line.
to
say this rod casts beautifully would be the understatement of all time. it was as close to pure perfection as i have
experienced in a long time, incredibly easy loading, accurate, and laid out the
most delicate presentations.
there
were quite a bit of fish on the flat on wednesday, but for whatever reason they
were just not that bitey. that did not
concern me all that much because often times, especially these days of higher
fishing pressure, the bones are just like that.
besides i was truly in unity with the universe. i was running on autopilot, taking shot after
shot at fish presenting themselves before me with the new fiberglass extension
of my mind, arm, and soul. overhead
casts, roll casts, switch casts, spey casts, right hand, left hand, down wind,
into the wind, it was more than an afternoon of fishing for bonefish, it was an
experience.
of
far lesser importance, i did hook a few fish despite the fish being overall
very closed mouthed and skittish that afternoon. i caught a small omilu, bluefin trevally,
hooked a pretty decent size bone that gave the unity with the universe
everything it could handle and a bit more before the hook just popped out. then i got another one to eat before calling
it a day.
