bonefishing hawaii:

everything on it. (part 2)

yesterday, it was out to hi kai for one last quickie.  the high of the bender had run its course, the internal spring had uncoiled and i was beginning to feel the beat down coming on.  the low pressure front was near.  i took out the sage 5119-4 switch rod, s.a. .035 floating saltwater shooting line, and  a rio skagit short in 325gr. and 375gr., and a 10ft. rio intermediate tip.  there didn’t appear to be too many fish around.  i also left the "a" game at home (a symptom of the beat down) which could have had an effect on the day as well.  we scoured the area and scraped up a couple of bones that were still around.

so there you have it. you know, it's kind of funny, guys are always looking for something (anything) to help them catch more fish.  a spot. a technique, a fly.  my little bender this past week is an example of the single greatest thing that will do the most to help anyone who wants to catch more fish.  tides be damned, weather be damned, and trying to figure it all out be damned, just go out and fish!  there are tons of fish and miles of ocean out there and an endless supply of gear and fun techniques to fish them with.  it's out there 24/7 just patiently waiting for us to go experience.  why spend so much time and energy searching when all the answers are right out there?  i’ll see you on the water.

nankos mike came out of his winter hibernation and checked in with this nice k bay bonefish.

in the spirit of my man shel silverstein, i'll end with the following poem...

a fishing secret revealed.

by clay.

to the novice angler i will share this one secret.

cast, cast, and cast again.

i assure you it will happen, though only the fish gods know when.

but i will tell you this one secret (my novice friend),

as i can see you are near the end of your wit.

everyday that goes by without a bite,

is that many days closer to bit.

so enjoy every minute of it.

...good times.

clay.
