bonefishing hawaii:

saved by the crew.

been battling a little case of the breakoffs the past few times out.  fish cutting me off on coral or just straight up popping off.  i have been devoting a good portion of my day chasing the elusive "hawaiian" trevally (not to be mistaken for the "rest of the world" trevally which seem to occur in greater numbers and are much more aggressive... i wonder why that is).  i did hook my first trevally of the summer.  a nice whitey that crashed some mullet about seventy five feet in front of me.  unfortunately, after some effort, it decided to join the other bones i hooked recently in giving me the slip.  oh well, sometimes like that.  as anyone who has been playing this crazy game for a while knows, it happens.  all you can do is man up and pound right through it.

i realize this blog is not about "fishing tales"  there are many other sites and people for that sort of stuff and i'm not usually like that but i feel like i gotta write something to justify this blogs existence.  fortunately, for me and the blog, the best of the best around here are a part of what i refer to as the crew.  without them, all i would have to show this week is a number of flag tail weke, and a to'au.  having fished with some of these guys and through the coconut wireless, i can say that they have all been doing quite well so far this summer.  although there’s been a bit of a breeze out there and it's been a little cloudy the past couple of days, the fish are around in summer like numbers.  it’s the time everyone’s been waiting for... time for catching (or at least hooking in some cases).  so get out there and get while the getting’s good.  that’s all i’ve got to say for now... excuse me, i've got some pounding to attend to.  i'll see you on the water.

check out my buddy mike's little post on why sharks are worse than rattle snakes.

sharks trump snakes.

i don't know about that.  this island boy has never encountered rattle snakes or any snakes for that matter (knock on wood).  i think i can safely say it would be quite an underwear changing experience.

seans been searching for his "grand slam" of sorts but so far the "hawaiian" trevally has yet to rear its ugly head.  the summer's still young bro.

deano just got back from a six month tour of duty and picked up right where he left off with his new meiser steel master conversion rod.  it's good to have the deano back and it looks like he's happy to be home.

the steel master gets roi'd.  nice.

my pounding this week took place with the sage 6119-4 tcx switch, the beulah 5/6 switch, and the sage 890-4 one.

i did land a few flag tail weke (goatfish) which i thought was pretty cool but i know most folks don't care about that.

i also got another to'au which makes 2012 the year of the golden trevally and to'au for me.  before this year i caught neither of them on a fly.  i guess when it rains it pours.

the goat says... goooood tiiiiiiiimes.

clay.
