fly fishing hawaii:

new years fishes.

started off the new year late this year.  a little cold kept me off the water until wednesday of this week.  fished with doug and brotha craig.  not the easiest of days but we all did what it took to squeeze out our first fish of 2013 to start the new year off right.  hope you already got yours too.  if not, don't worry, the year is still young.

first fishes of 2013...

started off the new years with inventory and some somewhat illegal fire crackers at the shop for good luck in 2013 (some of us really do believe that).

nick curcione checked in with his first fish.  a nice cali surf perch.  the fly he used looks like a good hi bonefish fly.

deano's first 2013 fish.  an awa a'ua (lady fish).

he also caught this tako (octopus) that found his streamer to be too good to pass up.

doug with his first (but far from last) bone of 2013.

craig "rusty" switched up his first fish with his scott fiberhammer and abel switch reel.  a nice whitey (trevally).

my actual "first catch" of the new year was this little chunk of bone food (mantis shrimp).

then the beulah 5/6 classic switch rod and abel switch reel got the new year going in the right direction.

only managed one fish on wednesday, but it was an important one (not good to start the new year off with a bolo).  then i fished on thursday and absolutely slaughterhoused a bunch of bones, though it wasn't a very good day for me.  that is a story is for another time.  stay tuned.  suffice to say so far 2013 looks to be a yet another year of good times.
