fly fishing hawaii:

the all photo all the time blog.

since i last blabbed, i blinked and all of sudden it was february... man i gotta get fishing so i spent the last week out on the water pounding.  the fishing is still pretty spotty.  the crew and i have had to pound hard.  we've had to make every cast and presentation count as best we can because you simply may not get too many lately.  i can’t remember too much details about this week as i'm a bit beat down right now.  it went by so fast it is all just a blur in my weary feeble mind.  so i’ll just throw up a bunch of pics to give you an idea of what all has been going on around here.  the weather is finally great for sight fishing and that is mostly what we’ve been up to lately.  so enjoy the pics and get out while the gettin’s good and i’ll see you on the water.

the crew’s spey and bamboo bone brother deano checked in from his current top secret locale.

scenes deano’s “hood”.

he’s still cranking out his tight k style streamers.

foreign flowers.

deano “national guarding” his bvd’s from foreign threats.  be safe bro... things aren’t the same without you around here.

fished a tough day on the lake with matt the day before he returned to college in los angeles.  very ambitious little peacock.

it took much much patience and persistence, but matt did get the first red devil either of us have caught sight fishing in a long time.

and matt got his cat keeping his catfish streak alive.

the kirksta reminds us that the "big one" can rear it’s ugly head at any time.  doesn't get much bigger than that kirk!

...but everyone can see the big fish.  they stick out like sore thumbs.  the true test of a skilled sight fisher is a fish like this.  i think 99% of “sight fishers” here would not even be able to spot a fish like this.

countless hours on the water and a rampant case of bone fever has put doug among the top of that 1%.  the boy doesn’t let much go by him without chucking an orange and tan charlie at it.

on wednesday, i ran into jay at the boat launch (coming out of his winter hibernation) and jumped in with him.  despite a long winter hiatus from fishing, jay showed little signs of rust.  as is usually the case when fishing with jay, we got into fish.

sage 890-4 tcx, abel reel, airflo ridge bonefish/redfish line, kook, and bonefish.

doug came out later and did his thing as well.

then on thursday, it was back to fishing the glass rod.  broke in my new rod with a bone and a couple of whiteys.

friday was the tough part of "spotty" and although doug somehow squeezed out three bones.  an extremely fatigued clay had to muster up all his strenth just to get this “day saver”.

check out the vid... jay is this long enough for you?  this video sh_t ain’t easy.

and that, my friends, is fun kine fly rod pounding hawaiian style.  live what you love... good times.

clay.
