fly fishing and not so fly fishing hawaii:

may flowers. (continued)

"sinful" spin fishing session for papio.

although our passion in life is fishing the fly, we are at the core, fishermen first.  sometimes it is fun to go back to our roots and fish like we did growing up here on oahu.

that’s exactly what doug and i (and a few spinning rods) did on wednesday afternoon.  like the dougie and clay of our small kid times, we went toe to toe with our “secret” lures to see who’s was best.  i caught this 'omilu (bluefin trevally) and it was game on.

doug caught this nice whitey...

and i got this nicer whitey.

doug closed the gap with this 'omilu.

then proceeded to school me in the art of barracuda fishing by catching five to my zero.  the boy's serious about his cuda.

after the lesson it was back to papios and another omilu for our super hero and his magic rod (and super lure).

no better way to end a day of fishing than with a double.  so who had the “better” secret lure?  the jury is still out on that.  i have to say, though, that ridiculous thing doug was using most of the time made a pretty good showing.  super good fun.  we’ll call it a draw for now... until the next time!
