Further information ...

Hi everyone, Sean here again. This past Sunday Clay and I did our annual fly tying demo at the Hawaii Fishing & Seafood Festival. As always, Pier 38 was packed with fishermen, wanna-be fishermen, and anyone who had a hankering for fresh seafood. The weather was bright and sunny at lunchtime, and the food booths had lots of good eats for sale.

Clay chows down on some seafood chowder while Doug double-fists chicken yakitori and Hawaii-style sherbet.

My pick for the day was the "sushi slider." I can't believe I actually liked eating kale. I didn't even know it was in there until after I had eaten it all.

One of the biggest draws of the festival was the fresh seafood display. In case you didn't know, yes, people in Hawaii definitely consider bonefish to be seafood.

At 1:30 pm we started our fly tying demo. We were relieved to see all the seats filled up.

Clay showed the crowd how to tie the Reef Special, one of the most popular and effective flies around these parts.

I tied one of my flashy streamers, this one in a blue UV tint. If you tie my fly and don't catch a papio with it, I'll refund your admission to the festival.

If anyone missed the demo or didn't quite catch what we were doing, the instructions are here. My fly there is green, but you can just switch it to blue and all the steps are the same.

Within an hour we were done and just then the skies opened up with an unexpected downpour. Tropical weather is sometimes like that.

Big mahalos to all the folks who showed up to see our demo! If you didn't want to watch us, we wouldn't be there. Hope to see you all again next time!
